For this project, I recreated one of my own pieces of art, a sculptural piece of a “banana chair.” The concept behind the chair is simple in the sense that I have taken an object (a banana), which is normally used for one thing (food), and applied it to something completely different (furniture). On a deeper level, the interactive-ness of the chair raises questions about what the viewer becomes when s/he sits in the chair. (Is s/he now the banana?) The chair also has an absurdity about its appearance/presence, which I think is quite humorous. http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs059.snc3/14639_197141883886_502078886_2950643_6783911_n.jpg
In my video, I aimed to capture all of the parts in the concept behind the “banana chair.” I shot two scenes, each trying to show something bizarre and interactive with the person performing the action in the video. The first scene is of a guy making pancakes with a tennis racket. He then eats the pancake, acting like there is nothing unusual about what he has just done. The second scene shows a girl make tea in a rain boot. She then relaxes, reads the paper, and sips her tea, out of the boot.
